                Greetings Select Few:

In an effort to keep all classmates updated on the progress of the Class of 1982 fund-raising efforts for our 20th Reunion and the Bicentennial of USMA, the following is a detailed status report on pledges made.

As of 30 April 2002, our fund-raising efforts have yielded the following:

Total Classmate      Participation       Total Amounts      Total Amount       Shortfall of 1982
Response                    Rate                       Pledged              Collected            "Cash" Objective
          219                          24%                  $ 515,796             $ 301,254                ($ 198,746)

Special recognition and thanks to all those Classmates that have participated in the drive to date.  However, your help is still needed in collecting the required cash.

While we are in the thank you mode, our Class appreciates and thanks all those classmates that have made generous contributions to our 20th Class Reunion and the Bicentennial Campaign (see the attached list). Also, one cannot measure the value of your individual pledges in pure dollars as each pledge (and collection) is important to the helping our Alma Matter.

Based on the correspondence (via e-mail) I have received, I wish to reiterate what our funds will be used for. As you are aware, the Bicentennial Campaign is a capital campaign that the West Point Fund (AOG Fundraisers) is conducting on behalf of USMA and the AOG that includes over 60 priority gift projects. The money raised by the Class of 1982's 20th Reunion Fund is in the form of an unrestricted gift to the Bicentennial Campaign. Our Class voted for this at our class business meeting during our 15th reunion.  Since that time, we have had a group of elite classmate volunteers (Alex Gorsky, John Hoffman, Tom Girouard, Ellen Houlihan, Mike Peffers, Kevin Keough, Bill Rogers, Chris Schopfer, Jon Sosnowski, Liam O’Connell, Mark Kimmey and Les Knotts) that have assisted in contacting and educating fellow Classmates regarding the deliverable of raising $500,000 in cash prior to our 20th reunion so we can honor our commitment to USMA. These classmates have done a great job and our many thanks to them for their efforts.

Our Class President, Les Knotts, established a goal of this fund raising effort – for maximum participation of our Class so that everyone feels that they are a part of this "Class" gift. We've accomplished many great things in a mere 20 years!  We were the first class to present a 10th reunion gift, the youngest class to change their class constitution to elect new officers every 5 years, and the first class ever to vote to raise money for an unrestricted gift to USMA (which allows the Superintendent to apply our contribution towards USMA's greatest need).   I'm confident that on 11 Oct., we'll also be the first class ever to present $500K at a 20th reunion. The Class of '82 is a great class for so many reasons.  Many are still serving our Armed Forces with distinction, whether on active duty, in the Army Reserve or the National Guard.  Others are serving their country, their communities and USMA in countless other ways.   Many of you are leading your local Admissions or West Point Society's efforts to support USMA!

If you have any questions concerning your pledge, please contact myself or Lois Pucino at the AOG at (800) 232-4723 ext 1655. If you have made a contribution through the Bicentennial Campaign and not identified the money to be part of the Class of 1982 Fund, send an e-mail to classgiving@aog.usma.edu to redirect your pledge.  Only the balance forward will be credited.

What has already been paid can not be changed.
Pledges can be made electronically by signing on the Association of Graduate’s web site www.aog.usma.edu and clicking on to the “2002 Bicentennial Campaign” button and further clicking on to the “how can I give” button. Make sure that you indicate the pledge is for “My Class Gift Campaign – Class of 1982”. While you are at that site, please take a look at our class’s web page for all reunion information.

If you have not been receiving updates via e-mail, please send the correct e-mail address the John Hill, our “Web Master” at dj0165@exmail.usma.army.mil  and he will place your address on our Class’ List Serve.

If you have any questions concerning our efforts and you wish to contact me directly, please do so either by e-mail:  philipconnolly82@aol.com or call me at (408) 690.2053.

Once again, thanks for your continued support to our Class, West Point and the American Way.
