        Steven G. Berstler, Chief Investment Officer and Treasurer of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and Harding Township resident, died of cancer in his home on Wednesday.  He was 46.

        Visitation is Monday from 3 to 7 pm at the Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, Main Street, Madison .  A Funeral Mass will be held at the Church of Christ the King in Harding at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 24, 2007.  Burial will follow at the US Military Academy at West Point at 1:30pm. 

        Born and raised in central Ohio , Mr Berstler lived in the Harding area since 1989.  He graduated 12th in the class of 1982 at West Point with a concentration in Russian Studies and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant.  Mr. Berstler served in the US Army for five years, with assignments as an artillery officer in Oklahoma, Colorado, and South Korea . 

        After his honorable discharge, he received his MBA from the Wharton School of Business in 1989.  He joined JP Morgan and became a Vice President in the fixed income and corporate finance areas, and later worked at Bear Stearns.  In 1997 he changed careers, and joined the Metropolitan Museum , rising to his current position while delivering superior investment results for the museum.  Steve was an avid reader, lover of history, and sports.  He was a devoted father and husband.  A man of great faith, he converted to Roman Catholicism in 1986. 

        First diagnosed with melanoma in 1995, he fought back, and lived another dozen years. Mr. Berstler is survived by his loving wife, Pamela Motill Berstler; a daughter, Samantha, and son, Spencer; his parents, parents in-law, a brother and sister, two brothers in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. 

        No flowers will be accepted.  In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be sent to Villa Walsh Academy in  Morristown , NJ , and Oratory Preparatory School in Summit , NJ .  These funds will be used to establish the Steven G. Berstler Scholarship Funds, which will help deserving students attend these schools.  Contributions should be mailed to:
