If you send a message to one of the List Servers, it
must come from the e-mail address that server has for you in its database.
If it does not, the list owner will receive a "Bounced: non-member
submission" message. The list owner will forward this message to you along
with a link to this page. There are several possible actions you can take.
- If you think the e-mail addresses match and there is some other problem,
reply to the list owner and explain.
- Your e-mail server allows you to use an alias, such as
John.Doe@bogus.com when your actual
e-mail address is something like
jd4312@bogus.com. Examine the headers in the bounced message and
determine if this is the case. If so, respond to the list owner and
ask to have your e-mail address updated.
- You have changed your e-mail address, or your old e-mail address has
expired. Ask the list owner to update it.
- You have multiple e-mail addresses (often, one for work and one for
home) and you have sent your message from the one that is not in the list
server database. You have two options. First, ask the list owner
to add your other e-mail address to the database. This will allow you
to send message from that address, but will result in you receiving two
copies of all messages from the list server (one at each address).
Your other choice is to re-send your message from the address that is in the
server database.
