USMA1982 list

USMA1982-FORUM list

Dear Select Few:

We welcome another Spring with news and updates of our abundant class talent and energy.

1. We have stars! Thanks to all our classmates serving in uniform in a variety of capacities around the world. Of special note with information on their next assignments:

Colonel (Promotable) William L. Mayville, Jr., Chief of Staff, United States Army Southern European Task Force (Airborne), Italy to Deputy Director, J-3, United States European Command, Germany.

Colonel Edward C. Cardon, Commander, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 3d Infantry Division (Mechanized), Fort Stewart, Georgia to Assistant Division Commander, 3d Infantry Division (Mechanized), Fort Stewart, Georgia.

2. We educate the next generation of leaders for our nation. Colonel Cindy Glazier Jebb was named Deputy Department Head and Academy Professor, Department of Social Sciences. Colonel Maritza Olmeada-Saenz Ryan is Academy Professor and Head of the Department of Law.

3. We honor Class Children! We celebrated our first class son, Austin Wilson (Dave Wilson) in 2005. This year we celebrate our first class daughters. Thanks to Bryan Goda for keeping track of who’s who and graduation dates. We will welcome 5 Class Children: George M. Hermogeno (Bryan S. Goda), Thomas A. Groves (Bryan A. Groves), Audra L. MacNeil (Michael H. MacNeil), James M. McCormick, Jr., (James M. McCormick), and Jean L. Scrivner (Benjamin A. Scrivner), to the Long Gray Line.

4. We are planning our 25th Class Reunion. A couple of months ago, Mark Swanson, Reunion Chair, conducted our first online poll to get a sensing of what events you most enjoy around a reunion celebration. Based on your input, Mark and his committee determined our reunion will most likely be in September 2007 in conjunction with a home football game and will include both the traditional activities (golf, informal social, tailgate etc.) as well as some fun, innovative things that we have not tried before. Several classmates have volunteered to serve on the committee but there’s still room for a couple more. Zap him an email at mswanson@lanefive.com if you are interested in helping plan our first reunion without rain! (I have already started to pray to Odin)

5. From Class Vice-President John Hill: As many of you know, Bill Walsh has advanced people-location capabilities and has already helped the class find many of our "lost" classmates. If there's a particular classmate that you're looking for, check with the webmaster first (john@duvalhill.com). If he doesn't have current contact information for that classmate, contact Bill at wgwalsh82@aol.com and he'll add the name to the next search. If you find a lost classmate, please notify both John and Bill.

The USMA1982 list server is alive and well, with 672 e-mail addresses for 624 members (out of just over 900 potential members). This is among the highest, if not the highest, participation rate of any class.

Due to a desire to maintain the USMA1982 list as primarily a means for keeping the class in touch, we've created the new USMA1982-FORUM list. This is a place where classmates who are so interested can discuss the weighty issues of the day. We currently have 91 classmates engaged in the forum.

If you know of any classmates who aren't on the USMA1982 list, or if you want to join the USMA1982-FORUM, please contact the webmaster (john@duvalhill.com) or see the contact page: <http://www.west-point.org/class/usma1982/Contact/index.htm>

There have been a few request to post contact information for classmate businesses on the class web-site, similar to the "Service Academy Business Resource Directory" (see http://www.isabrd.com) but just for the class. If you are interested in having your business listed, please contact the web master at john@duvalhill.com.

From Class Scribe Jay Jennings: The Class of 1982 Assembly subscription rate is among the best of recent USMA classes. From the Classes of 1975 to 2005, we are second only to the Class of 1978 - if you’ll recall, a larger than normal class population - in numbers of subscribers to the magazine. And we only trail by eleven, 261 to 250. (Oops, I started a sentence with ‘and’ – Les Knotts will git me). Only need twelve subscribers to overtake ’78 and secure the lead position we so richly deserve. Click here to subscribe.  Recent articles have been chock full of information on our classmates in Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Afghanistan, Djibouti, and other garden spots. Much appreciation to the folks who continue to send news and photos. We’re seeing more and more photos of children graduating from college – including recent USMA grads. Thanks for your continued support – go to the link above, drop your token $44, that’s $5.50 an issue – and push the Select Few to the front of the pack for the last 30 years!

Coming this summer—

  • Reunion Planning Timeline
  • Class Officer Candidacy (YOU can help lead our class)
  • 2006 Baragona Award and Projects Day

Most Sincerely,

Ellen Houlihan
John Hill
Ron Welch
Ritz Ryan
Jay Jennings
